Caring for Your Porcelain Dolls Collection
![]() |
Porcelain dolls are beloved collectibles for many people. Dolls bring back memories of childhood and are fun to shop for and buy. There are so many different kinds of dolls, you'll never get bored. There are antique dolls and new dolls. Some people like to focus on collecting just antique dolls, while others prefer to acquire brand new dolls. Then there are collectors who like to collect both new and old dolls. No matter what kind of collection you have, it is important to know the right way to care for your porcelain dolls collection.
First, make sure you save all the packaging, tags and paperwork that comes with your porcelain doll. It's best to leave the doll in its original box, especially if you are collecting for investment purposes. Of course, many collectors do like to take their dolls out of the box and display them in their home. If you want to do this, reserve a special location for the box and literature that came with it. If you ever decide to sell your doll, you will have the original box which will definitely contribute to its monetary value.
If you do choose to display your porcelain dolls in your home, a glass curio is the perfect display case. You can find curio cabinets in a variety of styles and sizes. Glass curios can even be lit to provide greater visibility and accent your collection. At the very least, consider purchasing a clear display case for your dolls. By keeping them behind clear glass or plastic, you are protecting the doll from dust and damage while allowing it to be seen. Porcelain dolls are a beautiful accent to any room and make a great conversation piece.
Never modify your porcelain dolls collection in any way. This means changing the clothing and/or hairstyle is a definite don't. Doing this can seriously alter the value. You should try not to handle your dolls more than necessary due to the natural oils on your fingers. If you pack your dolls away, make sure you wrap them in acid free tissue paper and take precautions to protect the dolls' clothing from moth damage. Moths love to chew holes in fabric, and the last thing you want is your collectible dolls to get holes in their clothes. It's not difficult to care for porcelain dolls, which is one of the many reasons why so many doll lovers enjoy collecting them.
