Large Porcelain Dolls: A Great Choice for Collectors

Do you love collecting porcelain dolls? Many people do. When you think about the porcelain doll, you probably think of a Barbie-sized doll that is kept in a curio or display case. However, one of the most interesting types of doll is the large porcelain doll. Large porcelain dolls are often life sized, especially when they are crafted to look like babies or toddlers. Then you will find large porcelain dolls made to look like adults. Of course they are not adult sized, but they are much larger than the average doll.

You may find that with large dolls, part of the doll is made from porcelain and part of the doll is made from stuffed fabric. This is the most efficient way to build a large doll. Usually, the body is made from fabric that is stuffed and the hands and head are made from porcelain. Porcelain is clay that has been fired at extreme temperatures. There are two types -- china and bisque. As far as dolls are concerned, bisque is the most popular because of its realism. Speaking of realism, today's dolls look as much like real people as you can get.

For example, the life sized porcelain baby dolls look so much like real babies that some people might actually mistake the two, at least from far away. Collecting large sized dolls is best for people with a lot of space for storage and display. If you do not have children or pets at home, you can display your large dolls most anywhere you choose. If you do have pets or kids, you definitely want to keep your dolls under locked glass to prevent damage from being done to them.

Large porcelain dolls are perfect for the collector who seems to have everything. If you think you have it all when it comes to the porcelain doll and want something different, the large sized doll can renew your interest and give you something new to collect. You can often find these large sized dolls anywhere porcelain dolls are sold. This includes toy stores, home decor shops, specialty doll shops and especially online. You will find that a large sized doll will cost more than the average porcelain doll, but the expense is well worth it for many avid doll collectors.
